Why do I have to have an event reviewed following the FPG Template?

The FPG Template was originally designed and piloted in 1998, with the input of Dr. Pat Case, then President of the Faculty Association, Dr. Naomi Story, Jackie Moran, Instructional Designer, MCLI, and Ron Hill, Chair of FPG Committee.

Prior to the template there was considerable conflict re: the use of MCCCD sponsored events and activities and their eligibility for professional growth. At one point individual campuses established 100 & 200 level courses for teaching and learning content that were frequently rejected as eligible for professional growth advancement. The solution to this conflict was the development of a template, with strong instructional design influence to provide the highest quality activity possible.

The benefits of the template include:

Campus
The individual campuses may design activities for their own campus interest. These campus activities that offer FPG pre-approved hours have a greater attraction for faculty attendance.

FPG Committee
The use of a template provides the FPG committee with clear, consistent information to review for all MCCCD sponsored activities. The turnover of the committee members from one year to another makes it challenging to establish a predictable format that is synonymous with a quality professional growth activity. The template provides consistency for all reviewers and applicants.

The Community
When faculty attend an MCCCD event and then are subsequently rewarded with horizontal advancement in their salary the community of Maricopa should expect a high degree of internal review. The template sets the standard for a quality program to be designed. The FPG committee's review of the template allows for a check for the quality of the program to be offered. The quality of the template is reviewed by both the Faculty Executive Council, the FPG committee and with the input of Instructional Designers, in this case it has been since 1998, Dr. Maria Harper-Marinick.
