U.S. Library of Congress
The Library of Congress is beginning to use World Wide Web (WWW) to present information about and materials from its collections over the Internet. This project is in its infancy and will be developing over the next year. Some of the current LC WWW offerings include: photographic and sound collections from the American Memory Project, the African-American Culture and History online exhibit, Country Studies from the Federal Research Division, and access to LC MARVEL (LC's gopher-based campus-wide information system) and LOCIS(the Library of Congress Information System). In addition, the Library is developing a Global Electronic Library, which links to WWW meta indexes and search tools, federal government information, and eventually other WWW resources categorized by subject.
Library-Oriented Lists and Electronic Serials
is compiled by Ann Thornton and Steve Bonario (University of Houston Libraries). This document offers access to information about electronic discussion lists, distribution lists and electronic serials which are of interest to library professionals and staff.
Library Without Walls
from North Carolina State University is modeled after a physical library and includes several different areas: The NCSU Libraries Information System provides the ability to search the catalogs of NCSU, UNC-CH, and Duke University, as well as a U.S. Government Documents file. The Reference Desk contains resources such as dictionaries, directories, indexes, and guides to subject literature as well as guides to the Internet. The Study Carrels contain various types of Internet resources organized according to subject disciplines. There is a collection of Electronic Journals and Books, full-text sources which may be read on screen or mailed to a user's own computer account. The Software Tools directory includes public-domain software and utilities to facilitate the use of Internet resources.

is an innovative project that brings the resources of the University of Michigan to the citizens of Michigan through their local public libraries.

OCLC Online Computer Library Center
OCLC Online Computer Library Center, Inc., is a not-for-profit computer library service and research organization. OCLC operates the PRISM service for cataloging and resource sharing, provides online reference systems for both librarians and end-users, and distributes online electronic journals. OCLC's goals are to increase the availability of library resources and reduce library costs for the fundamental public purpose of furthering access to the world's information.
Portico
is the British Library Online Information Server. A portico is defined as "a row of columns supporting a roof around or at the entrance of a building". Portico is The British Library's pilot online information server, providing network users with access to information about The Library's collections and services. It aims to be The Library's "electronic shop window" to the world.
St. Joseph County Public Library
(South Bend, Indiana) on March 14, 1994 became the first public library on the World Wide Web.
Association of Research Libraries
The mission of ARL is to identify and influence forces affecting the future of research libraries in the process of scholarly communication. ARL comprises the libraries that serve major North American research institutions and operates as a forum for the exchange of ideas and an agent for collective action.
Research Libraries Group, Inc. (RLG)
The Research Libraries Group, Inc. (RLG) is a not-for-profit membership corporation of universities, archives, historical societies, museums, and other institutions devoted to improving access to information that supports research and learning. Three of these services -- Eureka (an easy-to-use search system), RLIN (a library support system), and Zephyr (a Z39.50 service) provide access to RLG's bibliographic database and CitaDel article-citation files. RLG's Ariel software offers document delivery over the Internet.

Directory of Electronic Journals and Newsletters
from the Association of Research Libraries The 1994 edition of the Directory is a compilation of entries for nearly 1800 scholarly lists and some 440 electronic journals, newsletters, and related titles such as newsletter-digests -- an increase in size of about 70% since the third edition of April 1993 and 3.5 times since the first edition of July 1991. The directory provides instructions for electronic access to each publication. The objective is to assist the user in finding relevant publications and connecting to them quickly, even if he or she is not completely versed in the full range of user-access systems.

US Geographic Names Database
from the Peabody Museum of Natural History (Yale University) includes a searchable index of 1,233,933 records corresponding to the labeled features that can be found on the 1:24,000 scale topographic maps of the US Geological Survey. The information is from a data system developed by the U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the U. S. Board on Geographic Names. The National Geographic Names Data Base is the largest of the GNIS databases, containing records on almost two million geographic feature names in the United States: from populated places, schools, reservoirs, and parks, to streams, valleys, springs, and ridges.
