Photograph of Natalie RiveraNatalie Rivera is a native Arizonan and has seen many changes in the Valley of the Sun throughout the years. Natalie earned a BA in Mathematics and a MS in Statistics from Arizona State University. Natalie currently teaches mathematics at Estrella Mountain Community College and has been at EMCC since 1999. While at EMCC, Natalie has served as a mentor in two NSF funded scholarship programs; the Computer Science Engineering Mathematics Scholarship (CSEMS) and the Emerging Scholars Program. Natalie has also dedicated time on MCCCD initiatives collaborating on NSF projects such as Systemic Reform in Science (SyRIS) and the Savvy Cyber Professor. Through the SyRIS project Natalie was able to work with colleagues in the creation of interdisciplinary materials for students enrolled in a Mathematical Concepts course and students enrolled in an Anatomy and Physiology course. While involved with the Savvy Cyber Professor project, Natalie had the opportunity to collaborate with faculty in other disciplines at a national level in the creation of Real World Learning Objects (RWLO).

Among other favorite projects, Natalie worked with faculty from the Universidad de Medicina Tropical, San Marcos, Lima, Peru on a statistical analysis of AIDS in specific populations in Lima, Peru. She has also worked with a teacher preparation program in Chaing Mai, Thailand.

In her spare time, Natalie enjoys cooking, physical fitness activities, teaching zumba and cardio kickboxing and also loves training martial arts. She most recently began her training in Haidong Gumdo (Korean Sword).
