Changes in Ocotillo for 2004-2005
Since 1987, Ocotillo has united technology and learning via faculty-led initiatives. Like the plant that provides the metaphor, in that time has evolved its structure to meet both the needs of teaching and learning as well as the changing role of technology (see more on the history).
With its mission firmly rooted in instructional technology, for 2004-2005 Ocotillo continues to evolve to meet the needs of Maricopa faculty.
The Ocotillo group will make a significant shift in its ongoing evolution. Over the past several years, campus Ocotillo Chairs have attended monthly meetings at the District Office and carried the Ocotillo torch to and from their campus. This model was initiated to strengthen campus-wide involvement in the planning and implementation of educational technology; it has established central faculty leadership in this cause. This mission has now been accomplished and its time for Ocotillo to sprout branches in new directions.

For next year, Ocotillo will involve 8 faculty, working in "Action Group" pairs (new model), to research, develop, foster, and deliver one of four focus initiatives that have been identified by the current Ocotillo Chairs. At this time, we are seeking faculty interested in working with these exciting and emerging topics. For these lead faculty, 3 load reassign time will be provided to their college by MCLI in support of this effort. My hope, as faculty Chair of the Ocotillo group, is that you seriously consider your strengths in light of these initiatives and submit your interest to work with this extremely forward thinking group.
Hopefully, at least one of the initiatives has piqued your interest.
If you can dream it, we can make it happen.
Sincerely,
John Arle
